of that time when love was stronger than fear.

A mother had raised three sons, all now of marriageable age. The first two decided to set off in search of the king’s daughter: whoever found her would be allowed to marry her,  but failure would be punished by death. Neither of them ever returned. So, the third son, determined yet frightened by his brothers’ fate, decided to take on the same challenge. Before presenting himself at the castle, he sought out a goldsmith to have a large golden lion crafted. Once completed, he hid inside it and had himself brought to the king as a gift. In this way, he overcame the first obstacle: the knights guarding the castle walls. Fascinated by the precious creation, the king brought it to the secret place where he kept his daughter hidden, hoping that the magnificent object would bring her joy. When the princess was left alone, the young man emerged from his hiding place, and love blossomed instantly between the two.

Crossing the walls had been easy, but the king had imposed one final trial: to win the princess’s hand, the young man had to recognize her among twelve maidens. A single mistake would cost him his life. The young man waited until nightfall to meet the princess in secret, and the next morning, in the presence of the king and the twelve maidens, he successfully recognized her. Thus, he won the challenge and was finally able to be with his great love.
